Project Components

ADVANCE Office

The UNC Charlotte ADVANCE Office opened in July and will serve as the structural focal point for all ADVANCE program components, as well as for other campus initiatives focused on equity and diversity. The ADVANCE Office will also centralize and expand faculty development and mentoring efforts and support policy changes that promote the success and satisfaction of all faculty. The ADVANCE Office will also work with Human Resources to improve work-life issues for all employees. The office is located in Denny 117, and houses the following staff:
  • Peta Ann Katz

    is the coordinator of the ADVANCE program at UNC Charlotte. Born in South Africa, Dr. Katz matriculated at the University of the Witwatersrand, continued her graduate work at the University of Chicago and completed her studies at Yale University. Her ethnographic anthropological research involves the relationship between gender, nationalism, and globalization.
  • Kerrie Stewart

    is the Special Assistant to the Council on University Community in the division of Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She supports the Council's efforts to create a diverse learning environment, and is currently working on the development of a campus diversity plan. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1998 and is completing a Master of Arts in sociology. Her research interests include race, gender, and class intersectionality, feminist theory, and cultural studies.
  • Milada Hejtmanek

    is a graduate student in the I/O Psychology program. She graduated from Connecticut College in 2004 with a major in Psychology Based Human Relations and a double minor in Hispanic Studies and Russian & Eastern European Studies. Since college graduation, she has worked with Hostelling International in Washington, D.C. coordinating stays and tours. Milada hopes to focus on measurement and testing issues, job satisfaction, and motivation.
  • Shaoli Bhadra

    is a senior whose major is in Anthropology with a minor in International Studies. She plans on attending graduate school next year studying anthropology, specializing in refugee studies and migration.

Dr. Kim Buch, Psychology, is the ADVANCE Faculty Director and encourages the campus community to stop by the new ADVANCE Office and to take advantage of its services and resources.
