Council on University Community (CUC)
In his February 2006 installation address, and again in his August 2006 convocation address, UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois highlighted the importance of on-campus diversity in terms of both strategic planning and integration. Spearheading this initiative is the Council on University Community.
The Council, chaired by Joan Lorden, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Chancellor DeBois’ Cabinet, consists of:
- Vice Chancellor Beth Hardin, Business Affairs
- Vice Chancellor Niles Sorensen, Development and Alumni Affairs
- Vice Chancellor Stephen Mosier, Research and Federal Relations
- Vice Chancellor Charles Lynch, Student Affairs
- Vice Chancellor David Dunn, University Relations and Community Affairs
- Judy Rose, Director of Inter-Collegiate Athletics.
Specifically, the Council is responsible for oversight and coordination of all multicultural programs and activities, and advises the Chancellor on ways to strengthen and sustain the understanding of diversity issues and sense of community among faculty, staff, and students. The Council will also develop and implement a comprehensive diversity plan for the University. The Chancellor, through the CUC, has created the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund. The purpose of the fund is to support faculty, staff, and student initiatives promoting the daily value of diversity in the intellectual life of the campus.
